PEOPLE COME HERE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE OUT THERE

From the front door to the back, every square foot has a story. From tables designed through training programs to coffee that shares stories of the world, from mural inspirational quotes displayed on walls that were spoken at our gatherings to screens looping problems being solved by people throughout our community. If and when you walk into this place, it must inspire you to go back to where you call home and make it better. This place is an entrepreneurial training center where ideas are shaped, where stories are experienced, where mentoring transpires and where people find community. People come here to make a difference out there. Our goal is for this space to inspire more good into the world. When people engage Plywood Place, it will cause others to dream in unimaginable new ways, not out of shame but out of hope and responsibility. We saw the need for a space that made people believe that better is possible, so we created Plywood Place.

Gensler’s 2019 Community Impact Award

Plywood Place, one of the winners of Gensler’s 2019 Community Impact Award, opened on February 29th. Plywood Place, located in the West End neighborhood of Atlanta, was designed pro bono to serve a not for profit organization known as Plywood People, which has been supporting a network of community building start-ups since 2010.

The Gensler team transformed a 10,000 square foot warehouse space into a dynamic co-working center and innovation hub that allows start-ups “doing good” to launch their ideas, sustain their entrepreneurial spirit, and achieve their goals of problem-solving for positive impact.

Baux Wall // “The path of entrepreneurship takes many twists, turns, questions, shapes, people, processes, colors, failures, hopes, wins, stops and starts. And it’s all worth it. Looking back we have a story that shapes our work. We have a grid that layers the solutions. Without the messy process we would not value the current state. Our back wall depicts what we all go through everyday to bring our purpose into presence. We have all journeyed far and yet we still have a distance to go. May we always look back and see it as art that has made something special today.” / PLYWOOD PEOPLE
